Confuseus Say....
I recently heard someone respond to the idea that we have to have illegal immigration because no-one else will do the jobs they do. The response was that we should re-institute slavery, because slaves will do the work that no-one else will, because they have to.
Of course, this is a ridiculous thing to say. But, this argument for illegal immigration is the same argument that was used for slavery. We have to have slavery, because citizens won't do the work that slaves do.
So, think we need to come up with better arguments for why illegal immigration is a good idea, rather than recycling the same old ones that really degrade people that are not like ourselves and show our arrogance in refusing to do anything that we deem beneath our dignity and pay grade.

maybe we need to come up with a more p.c. term for it. "illegal immigrant" sounds soooo... against the law. i think they just went out hiking and got lost, and then they were lost and needed to eat so they got jobs. so really they are just misplaced. i think we should call them less-than-legal immigrants or almost refugees.
Or undocumented aliens (UDAs)
or we change the system. instead of a system that makes it impossible for poor people to get into our cournty with out breaking the law, a system that takes many years and many thousands of dollars, we come up with a more p.c. term, "legal immigrants". i know im getting a little crazy here. we allow and document people who want to live in this country and because we have them documented we can send the criminals back, no second chances.
but what about the 20 million law-breakers currently residing in the US? i think most would agree with me it is unpractical to line buses up from NY to LA and deport 20 million people and even more unpractical to throw them in jail. i think the best option, not a perfect option is to fine them and document them. personally i would feel much more comfortable knowing we are keeping track of the people in our country.
but overpopulation! i dont know. all i do know is that we have the same land-mass as china and they have a billion more people than us. so we have a long way to go. i do know that we are the greatest country on earth and if anyone can figure out how to deal with a lot of people, its us.
most americans look back at our laws banning the chinese from immigrating into the US and racist. currently we are banning poor people who just happen to be from Mexico...is there a difference? we are more than willing to accomidate professors, doctors, athletes and students from other countries but poor people need to stay out.
as glen beck would say, "tell me where im wrong".
