No, I am not into Eastern Philosophies (well, except for my religion happened to begin as an eastern one with...., that is perhaps for another post), but here is some info from some zen site. Disregard that and look at some ways to simplify, focusing less on being busy and more on priorities. Why? Most people I know do not really focus on the things they say are important, i.e. Faith, Family, Friends, etc. Most people I know clutter up their lives with many other things that detract from the things they say are truly valuable. So, in order to live a life that reflects what we say are values are, we need to simplify.
- Make a list of your top 4-5 important things.
- Evaluate your commitments.
- Evaluate your time.
- Simplify work tasks.
- Simplify home tasks.
- Learn to say no.
- Limit your communications.
- Limit your media consumption.
- Get rid of the big items.
- Edit your rooms.
- Simplify your wardrobe.
- Limit your buying habits.
- Free up time.
- Do what you love.
- Spend time with people you love.
- Spend time alone.
- Eat slowly.
- Drive slowly.
- Be present.
- Create a simple mail & paperwork system.
- Create a simple system for house work.
- Learn to live frugally.
- Consider a smaller home.
- Consider a smaller car.
- Learn what “enough” is.
- Eat healthy.
- Exercise.
- Declutter before organizing.
- Have a place for everything.
- Learn to decompress from stress.ithout a car.
- Find a creative outlet for self-expression.
- Simplify your goals.
- Single-task.
- Simplify your filing system.
- Reduce your consumption of advertising.
- Live life more deliberately.
- Create morning and evening routines.
- Go for quality, not quantity. .
- Fill your day with simple pleasures.
- Create an easy-to-maintain yard.
- Carry less stuff.
- Simplify your online life.
- Simplify your budget.
- Simplify your financial life.
- Learn to pack light.
- Leave space around things in your day.
- Live closer to work.
- Always ask: Will this simplify my life?
Or, here is the two step version of that:
- Identify what’s most important to you.
- Eliminate everything else.
