Immigration that works?

“All you need to do is grant visas to 2 million Indians, Chinese and Koreans,”

said Shekhar Gupta, editor of The Indian Express newspaper.

“We will buy up all the subprime homes. We will work 18 hours a day to pay for them. We will immediately improve your savings rate — no Indian bank today has more than 2 percent nonperforming loans, because not paying your mortgage is considered shameful here. And we will start new companies to create our own jobs and jobs for more Americans.”

what do you think about this james?

my mother-in-law is here visiting from korea, she thinks this comment is true...at least for first generation asian-americans, all bets are off after that.

you know me, i think we benifit from immigration more than it hurts us, but thats just me.

Immigration is how we built our country. Hard working people coming here and building their lives as they build our country.

One of the problems I see with illegal immigration is that it generally uses hard working people coming here, working hard and sending our economic strength back to their own country.

i would guess just like illegal immigrants, legal immigrants send money back to their home country.

im not defending illegal immigration (i think we should allow more immigrants in legally...even poor immigrants),but i have seen many studies on economic set-back vs. benifit of illegal immigration about evens out. i read an article a couple years ago from a new york times economist who came to the same conclusion.

so if we balance out economically, we benifit culturally and socially.
